Anyone using Disqus for blog comments?

Anyone using Disqus for blog comments?

I'm getting flooded with comment spam (thousands) and my amateur attempts to combat it have so far failed. One possibility a reader pointed out (in addition to Mollom and Akismet) is the DISQUS Comment System. It is not only supposed to filter comment spam, but supports centralized commenting, searching [1], deleting, etc.

Any experiences you'd like to share, either as a blogger or commenter on other blogs? I'd be much obliged!

(P.S. I've changed the comment preview setting back to being optional, and CAPTCHA back to math. They weren't helping, best I can tell.)

I have not used Disqus, but I have Akismet on my blog, and it works great. I don't even bother using a CAPTCHA device. Once in a while something gets through, but not enough to make it a hassle.

Hi Matt

I'm using Disqus on 2 blogs - www.desparoz.com and www.divingidc.com/news/

Brilliant system and good spam protection and excellent integration to twitter.

Recommended!

Thanks, Ray and Des. I'm curious: What CMS do you use?

[attempt #2]
I like the suggestions on getting a good filter. Maybe the Drupal people have a solution for you? Such as http://www.glennburks.com/blogs/glenn/drupal-comment-spam-solutions

If the CAPTCHA isn't working that suggests that the comment coding isn't actually using the captcha. The only real thing that it is supposed to do is prevent auto-spam-bots from filling out your page and succeeding. Does your blog mgmt software report a log of failed attempts? With spam attacks, I see several failed comments an hour due to failed captcha.

Thanks a ton, Jack. That really helps. Trying Mollom is a good experiment in the sense that it's less disruptive than Disqus.

Re: 2nd time, is there a problem with commenting? I'd want to fix it.

Hi there,
I just added Disqus yesterday because I wanted and easier way to reply to people who comment. I found the blogger comments too restricting. So far I like it but I was worried it was a bit new and more complicated and may put some people off.

I'll see how it goes in regards to spam, I've not had any before but I have quite a small blog, it seems the morepopular the blog the more suseptible to spam it is.

Hi Jade. Thanks so much for stopping by. I'm looking forward to hearing how this experiment works out for you. I'm trying Mollom first because it was a smaller step that Disqus. Commenting on your site was a snap - I already had an account.

P.S. I like your changes (1. Finance and Frugality 2. Health 3. Decorating 4. Work), esp. adding beauty.

Many reputable blogs are already using Disqus.

Akismet still allows a fair amount of spam to come in, so I am going to switch to Disqus soon,

Let me know how it goes! So for Mollom has been very good. However, I don't trust their report graph - it shows way more comments than I actually got. Mine is here from a while back: http://www.flickr.com/photos/matthewcornell/4335066342/

I now get a much smaller percentage, though I'm on hiatus at the moment. Thank you for writing.

I am looking into using Disqus or IntenseDebate. However, Disqus appears to be the most widely adopted and easiest to use.

disqus users:

@subcorpus I'm pretty certain that there's a Guest/anonymous option. Here are a few sites that use Disqus - you can try it out there:

I am using Disqus. It's really awesome. I have written an article http://www.webbuzz.co.cc/2011/05/25-reasons-why-you-should-use-disqus.html in my blog.
Check out my blog http://www.webbuzz.co.cc/ and don't forget to leave in comments.
